THE RESPONSE TO CLIMATE INEQUITY
|
Ecofeminism is a plurality of schools of thought and social movements in which ecology and feminism intersect, thus, highlighting the relationships between the subordination, domination, and exploitation of women and nature. Our thinking is structured around a series of dualisms: man-woman, culture-nature, reason-emotion, mind-body, human-animal. The dualistic view not only categorizes the world into pairs but also establishes a hierarchy: one element is above the other. For example, man is above woman, culture above nature, reason above emotion. It also generates a relationship between these dualisms, so that patriarchal thinking is based on associating man-culture-reason-mind and placing them above woman-nature-emotion-body, which would be subordinated.
Therefore, ecofeminism is based on the idea that the domination, subordination, and exploitation of both women and nature have the same common cause: the patriarchal, capitalist, and anthropocentric system.
Ecofeminism, by pointing out the root causes of the climate crisis and some social inequalities, guides us and provides clues to seek solutions that are fair for both humans and non-humans. It reveals the need to assign value and priority to functions, work, processes, living beings, and realities that are marginalized, subordinated, and exploited. |
