GENDER & SCIENCE COMMISSION

IBERIAN ASSOCIATION OF LIMNOLOGY

Promoting diversity, inclusivity and equity in inland water sciences
The Gender & Science Commission of the Iberian Association of Limnology is a collective dedicated to achieving gender equity in the study and management of inland waters.

Since its foundation in 2014, the commission has published several studies on the barriers that hinder women's scientific careers, led projects to highlight the role of women in the study and management of inland water, and promoted various guidelines to achieve gender equity in institutions directly or indirectly related to limnology.
The commission is composed of more than 20 researchers from various origins, backgrounds and institutions who voluntarily collaborate on different projects and activities. Our work has resonated within the scientific community, earning the Contribution to diversity and inclusion in academia Award from the Spanish Association of Terrestrial Ecology in 2021.

MEET OUR NEWEST PROJECT
THE EXHIBITION "AUGMENTED ECOFEMINISMS: CLIMATE, WATER, WOMEN"

Picture
Climate change is threatening freshwater ecosystems, generating inequalities and discrimination that disproportionately affects women. Many women, driven by discontent, have become prominent voices in movements for the defense and protection of these ecosystems. Unfortunately, we often forget these women when we talk about climate change and water.

The exhibition Augmented Ecofeminisms: Climate, Water, Women (#MUAC), funded by the Spanish Ministry of Equality,  invites a reflection of the interactions between climate change, freshwaters and ecofeminism. Through a journey that combines augmented reality with scientific, artistic and audiovisual material, the authors question the current management of environmental problems related to water, and explore potential futures based on alternative views to contemporary politics.

Are you interested in the exhibition? We offer the opportunity to host it to scientific, cultural, social or educational institutions that show interest to further increase the social and outreach value of the exhibition. Book it here!
