The study of freshwaters is full of fascinating women who have vastly contributed to our understanding of these precious ecosystems. However, as in many other fields, their contributions have been traditionally neglected.
The Gender & Science Commission of the Iberian Association of Limnology (AIL) was launched in 2014 and it is currently formed by more than 20 researchers from different institutions. During all those years, we have led different projects to accomplish gender equity in the field of Limnology as well as in designing and implementing solutions for the global water crisis.

MEET OUR NEWEST PROJECT: #MUAC
AUGMENTED ECOFEMINISMS: CLIMATE, WATER, WOMEN
Climate change is threatening freshwater ecosystems, generating inequalities and discrimination that disproportionately affects women. Many women, driven by discontent, have become prominent voices in movements for the defense and protection of these ecosystems. Unfortunately, we often forget these women when we talk about climate change and water. The exhibition Augmented Ecofeminisms: Climate, Water, Women (#MUAC), funded by the Spanish Ministry of Equality, invites a reflection of the interactions between climate change, freshwaters and ecofeminism. Through a journey that combines augmented reality with scientific, artistic and audiovisual material, the authors question the current management of environmental problems related to water, and explore potential futures based on alternative views to contemporary politics. Join us to the inaugural event on October 5, 2023, at the University of Girona! More info in our blog. |
